I always seem to pack way more than I ever intend to for any trip that I take. So would I be up to my self imposed challenge for my next trip? I purposely planned on traveling with only carry on luggage. That means no checked luggage and only a 20″ suitcase plus one extra bag. Could I do it? Is it possible to travel internationally with only a carry on bag?
In order to pull this off, I knew it required planning in advance and absolutely no last-minute jamming items into my bags at the last second.
Step one was to figure out which carry-on luggage you should use. There are many options out there but I chose my new Samantha Brown 20″ roller, which is part of the Embossed Ombre Spinner 3-piece Luggage Set. Why? I never intended to shop off HSN, but when I saw her on television talking about making luggage for women, I had to listen and before I knew it, I had ordered the set.
Step two is all about the cubes. I’ve been a big fan of packing cubes for years and this trip would include them again. Why cubes? Once I pack, wherever I end up I just put the cubes in drawers and I’m finished unpacking.
I now try to roll items up within the cubes to get as much in as I can. My clothes also come out less wrinkled.
Step three is organization: Once the cubes are packed, it’s time to get everything inside my bag. I try to put items that might crush easily in between layers to provide extra protection.
The final step is to add the cosmetic bag and ta da! I’m finished! Of course, I packed and unpacked at least four times before I left trying to make the bag as light as possible.
Step four is to optimize space: Believe me, I try to make the best use of every possible space and zippered pocket. You can roll up your underwear and socks tightly and fit them in that small zippered pocket on the inside of the suitcase.
The end result? I’m super satisfied and think this will make my life extra simple over the next two weeks. Have you ever tried to travel with only a carry on bag for a long trip?
