Some people choose to cruise for the entertainment, food, or maybe even the itinerary while others pick a cruise for the pools onboard. If you’re one of the latter, you can’t go wrong with the Norwegian Getaway. Located seventeen decks above the sea, the Aqua Park has everything you and your family could ever possibly want from pools to hot tubs and of course, water slides.
First up is the adult pool on deck 15 with a pool and four hot tubs conveniently located adjacent to Waves Pool Bar, the Kid’s Aqua Park and the Garden Café. While the pool was often jammed with people on those sunny days at sea, I was able to secure a quiet, private spot one deck up on deck 16 above the bar. It was quiet and I wasn’t forced to fight for a chair.
Are you ready for some fun? Then you have to try one of the slides onboard the Norwegian Getaway. Perhaps you’re daring enough to try the Free Fall, one of the two drop slides that drop you at 4Gs and are the fastest water slides at sea. For a little more fun, try The Whip, two racing, side-by-side twister slides that offer up a pure thrill ride of excitement. There’s also a fun family slide, too. When you’re done racing down the slides, you can venture to the Kid’s Aqua Park where you can hang with SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends in a pirate themed pool area.
When nighttime falls, the pool deck lights up and people still find a way to enjoy themselves either in the pool or the hot tubs. Can you blame them? Families would gather to watch the kids play in the pool while they sat back and relaxed. In the evening children would swim in the adults pool, which made it more convenient for families, especially those with older kids.
Vibe Beach Club is an adults only (18+) private beach club at sea located forward on deck 17 on the Norwegian Getaway. Guests can lounge in the fancy and private Vibe without the fear that it will become as crowded as the pool deck below. Included in the price are wine spritzers, chilled towels, and fruit skewers as well. Only 60 passes are sold per week on a per day or per week basis and they aren’t available online so if you’re interested in visiting Vibe, make sure to purchase your pass as soon as you arrive on the ship. You’ll have to decide for yourself if the oversized hot tub, plush chaise loungers, and adult only atmosphere is worth the extra expense. You can also pop over to Spice H2O (not pictured), which is another adult-only area on the ship located aft on deck 16. During the day you can lounge by the hot tubs and waterfall and at night you can dance or watch a movie on the large video screen.
Some might find rain on their vacation, no less a cruise, a true letdown, but it didn’t stop me from having a good time. I was up early running around the track, a very small track located on deck 16. I wasn’t alone, but believe me when I say most people were sleeping in and praying for sun. Although slightly eerie to be on a ship with thousands of other passengers and only seeing a few plus some crew members was a little eerie.
Norwegian Cruise Line did a stellar job offering more than sufficient space, pools, hot tubs, and slides for people of all ages to enjoy. Whether you want the kids to have a great time swimming in a kid’s pool or if you plan on wasting the day away underneath the hot sun with a drink in hand, you can do it all on the Norwegian Getaway.
