After over 18 hours in the air from Boston on Swiss Air and then Thai Airways, I was now headed to my first hotel in Bangkok, the Grande Centre Point Terminal 21. After reading so much about great shopping in Bangkok, I wanted to be as close to the action as possible, which is why I chose this hotel.
Located in the Terminal 21 shopping mall in Bangkok, Grande Centre Point Terminal 21 and next to the BTS skytrain and MRT subway, this was an ideal hotel to begin my time in Thailand.
TSG Tip: With some Icelandair miles expiring, I used them to pay for my hotel stay in advance. Since I was also arriving in the morning, I paid for the night before so I wouldn’t have to drag myself through Bangkok until check in time in the afternoon.
Grande Centre Point Terminal 21 Lobby
The palatial grand lobby was a sign of just how magnificent the rest of the hotel would be.
Grand Suite
I had booked the Grand Suite and it was massive in size at 700 sq. ft. with a bedroom, livingroom, and dining area as well as kitchen that had a washer/dryer combo. Did I mention the 40″ large screen TV, free minibar, and bottled water?
The bedroom had tons of storage, and a large television. The adjacent bathroom had a huge soaking tub, separate shower, and high tech toilet.
So many amenities, but it’s the view of the city and beyond that made this Grand Suite amazing.
Executive Lounge
Breakfast at the Executive Lounge was included with the Grand Suite although there are other restaurants and breakfast options available. Comfy seats and tons of food along with great service is what you’ll find here. The food options literally circled the room with choices from fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, pancakes freshly made from a pancake machine, hot foods like eggs, soups, and so much more.
I started with a miso soup and some tofu and then moved onto something completely new for me, hot soy milk. The toppings are what caught my eye and included job’s tears, lemon basil seeds, plain agar agar cubes, and ginko nuts.
Hotel Pool and Grounds
After breakfast we walked around the hotel to take in the view. I was feeling tired by this point, but not enough to fall asleep.
It was so hot even this early in the morning and jumping in the pool was on my brain.
Especially once I spotted the infinity pool with no one in it.
After taking these pics, we returned to our room, changed into our bathing suits, and swam for a bit.
Terminal 21
Still not tired enough to sleep, we then showered, changed, and walked the short distance through the hotel to the Terminal 21 shopping mall.
This nine floor shopping mall is huge and if you can’t find something here, you’re not looking hard enough.
I found this huge maneki-neko cat that greeted me on one of the upper floors.

The main corridors lead you to tinier rows of shops in between of clothing, books, accessories, and beyond. You could easily spend an entire day here with 600 shops from which to choose or pick one of the other shopping malls in Bangkok.
Bubble Tea
Not far from Terminal 21 was another shopping area with a small food court and market in the basement. It was here that I found my first bubble tea in Bangkok and it was so good. The heat was getting to me, I was starting to feel tired, and it was time to get back to the hotel. Don’t worry — I didn’t call it quits so easily on day one. In fact, we then went and had lunch at Cabbages & Condoms.
The View at Night
This was our view at night and it was quite a view, don’t you agree? You can see the MRT Sukhumvit Station down below.
Executive Lounge for Breakfast – Part 2
The next morning we went back to the Executive Lounge for breakfast and this was my view.
Yes, I had my hot soy milk again for breakfast along with fresh fruit. I mean I love fruit, but fruit never tasted as good as it did in Thailand.
I spotted a little trolley with a sample plate of mango sticky rice and a staff member saw me eyeing it. They offered to get me some and of course, I had to say, “yes.” This was my first exposure to freshly made mango sticky rice and it was so incredibly good. It was the only time I saw this pretty shade of blue on it while in Thailand. Turns out that’s butterfly peas or Centrosema added to the coconut milk to make it that beautiful shade of blue. Regardless of the color, it was so yummy. I think I should have mango sticky rice for breakfast every day.

Final Thoughts
My stay at the Grande Centre Point Hotel Terminal 21 was a short one as we were quickly moving onto our next location in Bangkok. If you’re looking for a hotel with a great location that’s central to everything, this is the hotel to choose. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again although honestly, I don’t think I’d choose the suite as it was huge. As I travel more, I’m starting to incorporate the philosophy of not needing the biggest room or the most stuff, just like I do at home.
