Whether I’m looking for vegan or vegetarian food, it’s safe to say the last place I’d expect to find a great meal is somewhere with cow decor. But Holsteins Las Vegas, also known as Holsteins Shakes and Buns, one of the many restaurants located inside the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, really surprised me with their great food. Yes, they’re known for having one of the 18 best burgers in Las Vegas, but did you know that they have fresh, natural, organic and healthy non-meat options as well?
Inside this large restaurant with seating for 157 people in tables and booths and an expansive bar area, you’ll notice the cow decor immediately alongside the warm brown wood accents. We chose a seat in the bar area with the long brown leather couches and got comfy.
It’s kind of hard to miss the oversized pink and white Holstein cow that’s front and center and since she’s pink, I had to take several pics.
I freely admit that fried pickles aren’t exactly health food, but Mr. TSG was all in so I couldn’t say no. These were crisp, light, and not at all greasy, and so not what you might expect from fried food. They’re served with a herb-caper mayo, but they’re so good on their own, you won’t even need it.
While you’re waiting for your food, check out the artwork at Holsteins Las Vegas from Shelby and Sandy. If it doesn’t put a smile on your face, then there’s something seriously wrong with you.
For my entrée, I chose a Greener Pastures salad with house greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, shaved carrot, and avocado with a balsamic vinaigrette and an “Urth” Burger from their burger menu. The “Urth” Burger is a house made vegan patty with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, and avocado, which I had them place on my salad and skipped the bun and sides.
Mr. TSG decided on the “Urth” Burger as well, but with the bun and a side of sweet potato fries. Usually when we go out to eat, the veggie burger on the menu is a frozen store bought patty like a Boca Burger or a GardenBurger, but this was a house made burger that was SO GOOD. Yes, that deserved capital letters because it was that good.
TSG Tip: The reason I’m calling this post “vegetarian dining” is because I don’t really know what is in the burger bun or the coating on the fried pickles. Aside from that, my salad was obviously vegan.
This was a huge change for us from the last time we dined at Holsteins Las Vegas. Previously, we skipped food and went right for the Bam-Boozled Shakes, which are crazy good like the Fat Boy (candy bar vodka, Reese’s peanut butter cups, pretzels, rainbow sprinkles, Froot Loops, Oreo cookies, Butterfinger, chocolate covered pretzel stick, rainbow twist pop, cotton candy, vanilla frosting, micro jawbreakers), but remember, I’m trying to eat healthier and with these easily coming in at over 700 calories each, I had no problem skipping them on this trip, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be back in the future.
I did enjoy watching a rather large muscled guy at the bar who ordered and consumed the Cookies & Cream Bam-Boozled Shake. What’s in it? How about whipped cream vodka, Oreo and chocolate chip cookies, a huge chocolate chip ice cream sandwich (which sits on top so you have to eat that to get to the shake), dark and white chocolate crunchies, vanilla frosting, and oreo crumbs. Yeah – I definitely need to work out more.
Have you ever eaten something and liked it so much that it was on your brain all day? Well, that’s what happened to me and so we ended up going back to Holsteins Las Vegas on our second night so I could order my Greener Pastures salad with an “Urth” Burger yet again.
Mr. TSG was interested in a salad this time and ordered the Caesar salad with a fried egg on top. As you can see, I gave him my shaved carrot and avocado like I did the night before and he was perfectly happy with his huge salad. Honestly, these salads were so incredibly good as was the service. Both nights we had Devon, a super friendly and professional server who not only remembered us from the night before, but somehow she also remembered what we were drinking and what we had ordered before we even had to say a word. Kudos to her and to Holsteins Las Vegas for hiring excellent staff members.
Whether you’re looking for a really good veggie burger, a salad, or maybe a total cheat like one of the Bam-Boozled Shakes, no matter what you’ll choose, you’re bound to find something delicious at Holsteins. Best part is that meat eaters and non-meaters can dine together here and everyone can enjoy a really good meal. I’m definitely keeping this on my list of places I can eat in Las Vegas. That’s cool you found a place in Vegas that had a nice selection of Vegan choices. Not always easy to find, especially in the land of all you can eat buffets like you see everywhere in Vegas! oh, ya.. fried pickles are my weakness! I clicked on your notification to read your future posts 🙂 Nice travel blog!
Hi Jeff! Yeah it can be really hard to find something to eat on a strict diet, but it was possible. Oh and those fried pickles were SO good. Light, crisp, and so not greasy at all. Thanks so much and I’ll have to check your site out. Marian
