The Two Chicks and A Road Trip Adventure

After 2+ weeks on the road, I’ve returned home and so begins the process of weeding through countless hours of video and hundreds of photos. But my road trip with my friend, Danielle, which was also known as the Two Chicks and A Road Trip, was like no other trip I’ve ever taken before. Here’s why and I’ll also share a few tips I learned on my summer road trip.

The Mustang parked in front of the Inn at Hastings Park in Lexington, MA

Nothing beats a summer road trip in a Mustang convertible. Nothing. Put that top down, crank the music, and enjoy everything that summer has to offer before the cold weather starts to kick in by mid-September. Pretty soon you’ll be reaching for a sweater or a hoodie and wishing you could remember what that hot summer sun felt like.

Almost 51 hours driving and 1563.1 total miles

We hit more cities and more miles on the road in two weeks than I’ve driven while at home in the past year. Seriously. I recently turned in my sporty little Kia Soul that I had for the past 2 1/2 years with only 8,000 miles on it. It was in really good condition, although there was an occasion when it broke down leaving me needing to take out a reasonable loan similar to the Payday Loans in Norway to help cover costs. In 12 days I managed to rack up 1,563.1 miles while driving through 7 states and the District of Columbia. But it was fun. There wasn’t a moment where I felt like I couldn’t stand another minute in the car or with Danielle. And luckily there were no scary accidents, that happened, thank goodness. I’ve heard a lot of stories about people taking road trips and ending their vacation with a lawyer on the phone. Thankfully that didn’t happen this time.

Not so interesting tan lines

I learned that you should never underestimate the importance of sunscreen. I thought a little on would be fine, but oh no — that won’t work when the sun is blazing and the convertible’s top is down. I’ve gotten a suntan that is noticeable by others for probably the first time in my life and while it is brown now, it was once a nice bright red. Note to self: ALWAYS use sunscreen in a convertible.

TSG Tip: Long hair? Tie that hair back when driving a convertible. That I learned on the first day of Two Chicks and A Road Trip. That first night I went to brush my hair and it had more knots in it than you can imagine. Ponytails, pigtails, chignon, man bun, whatever — put that hair back.

Pizza for breakfast baby.

Be willing to eat what you want, when you want, and not stress about it. You only live once (at least in this lifetime) so have fun, drink and be merry. Danielle and I don’t get to see each other in person regularly so I wasn’t going to insist on salads and Pellegrino, if you know what I mean. If all you can eat is a pretzel, then eat a pretzel and move on. Don’t stress about it people. Play it by ear, enjoy the moment, and do things on the fly when you can. In NYC, for example, we followed a strict pizza for every meal plan. What? Pizza for breakfast? You bet and it totally worked for me.

I got to spend countless hours just relaxing and enjoying time with my friend and that’s something I won’t ever pass up. Yes, you can fly somewhere and meet a friend at a beachfront resort, but how about sharing a car and seeing the country? Navigating roads neither of you know and doing it together? Even better why not bring your pets along – that’s what was really missing. Choosing a suitable car for pets can be a little difficult though, but all car leasing did a great study on it – see the original article here. I have to say though, I think we learned a lot about each other while doing this road trip and I can’t wait to share many of the pics, videos, and stories with you so come back daily to learn more about the Two Chicks and A Road Trip Adventure.
