Sit for a moment and visualise a cruise.  For those of you that have never cruised before, I know what you are seeing in your mind’s eye right now and I want you to hold on to that vision. Now, imagine this: I am a 28 year old single woman and I cruise, I cruise a lot! Now you can open your eyes, the picture probably looks a little different now…….right?

I am not your immediate vision when it comes to cruising.  I don’t particularly like to dress up every evening yet I do prefer a more contemporary ship. I can take or leave the fine dining (unless there are tiger prawns on the menu) and I am partial to booking a cruise that is far longer than your average. Oh did I also mention I cruise with friends and on my own?!  Didn’t see the latter coming did you!

cruisingSo what is it like to be a young single woman exploring the world one port at a time? Well, it is many things because cruising fills my life with an array of experiences and feelings. I explore numerous countries, learn as I go, meet some truly wonderful people and I get such peace in both body and mind whilst at sea; there really is no beating a day at sea.

Cruising solo or with friends at the age I am has its fun little moments too. For example, I usually step onboard and find that my fellow passengers think I am crew yet the crew think I am from head office. I guess the head office part may have something to do with the fact I am writing all the time. Cruise ships are great places for rumours…..they spread faster than the speed of sound and before you know it everyone is convinced you are there on some kind of secret mission.

cruisingMy apologies that there was mutiny on the Travel Shop Girl blog today, I took command because I wanted to share with another audience just how much everyone can get from a cruise. I was the typical non cruiser before I tried it and now, here I am! About to embark on the cruise of a lifetime, a 35-night Caribbean adventure sailing round-trip from Southampton. I leave for this cruise in just 13 days (January 2nd to be exact).

My last cruise was solo but this time I am travelling with my friend and it is more or less the cruise voyage of a lifetime for us both. We are sailing onboard P&O Cruises, Oceana, and our ports of call are: Madeira, Antigua, St Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Aruba, Panama Canal (daytime transit), Colon (transit only), Roatan, Cozumel, Jamaica, Tortola, St Maarten and Ponta Delgada.

I hope you can all stop by the CruiseMiss blog and follow my Caribbean adventure!
